Day 22 part 3.
On the way up a couple of other details at a station caught our eyes. Until this trip I had not thought of Norway in the same way as Demark or Sweden in terms of design (despite having some cool Stokke computer chairs at home) so it was interesting to see lots of details like these.
On exiting the train and taking the lift up to the main hall I was immediately struck by the architecture whilst Damae was struck by these chairs. The contrast with Schiphol is great Schiphol being constructed out of metal tubing and rather dark with lots of shops around it. Gardemoen on the other hand is light, airy with lots of wood to be seen. The roof beams have a curve on them which I found pleasing.
We ambled over to the Air France / KLM desk to ask for a couple of bike boxes which arrived (kerrrrrrrr-ching! "40 Euro pliss") as we were struggling to get the pedals off the bikes. This took us rather a lot of time. The allen key set did not provide much leverage, we were not sure which direction we had to turn the pedals to get them off and 1100km of cycling in Norway had tightened everything up somewhat.
After around 20 worried mins we had got all the pedals off and carried on with the partial dismantling of the bikes. Most of the bike bags went into the flight bag and were checked in. We each took on one pannier (sans sharps) on as hand luggage together with our handlebar bags.
Once in the boxes we checked in and handed in the bikes to the special luggage department. We did the usual waiting thing and watched our bikes being loaded into the plane and then boarded. As we were waiting to take off we heard that they had to do a partial unloading and we suspect that that is when my bike got damaged. Still at that moment we had no idea that anything would go wrong with the bikes in transit so we sat happily looking forward to the flight.
I took some more photos from the plane and some came out nicely. I managed to find the Frognerpark, and the Royal Palace, and a bit later the estuary of a river (although I am not sure which one it is).
